Moving fast to replace David Fincher on its highly anticipated Steve Jobs movie, Sony Pictures is in talks with Danny Boyle to direct the biopic of the late Apple Computer co-founder. Boyle is said to have approached Leonardo DiCaprio to star. As The Hollywood Reporter revealed earlier this month, Fincher fell out of the project due to his aggressive demands for compensation and control. Fincher had wanted Christian Bale for the title role, though the actor was not signed. That question lies at the heart of this week's 60 Minutes story on the making of the film "Steve Jobs. " And it's one that acclaimed director Danny Boyle set out to answer when he took on the densely written, three-act script by Aaron Sorkin. " Ambitious is the word I like to describe it, " correspondent Steve Kroft tells Overtime editor Ann Silvio in the video above. "Steve Jobs would have liked this movie, because it's different. It takes a lot of risks. " 60 Minutes producer Michael Karzis agrees. "There's no exposition. There's no setup, " he explains. "The movie just starts. And you're on a ride for two hours. " It's not a ride that everyone is up for. Laurene Powell Jobs, Steve's widow, was unhappy with her husband's portrayal. And in a December interview, Apple CEO Tim Cook told 60 Minutes, "What I can tell you is the man I knew is not the man in the movie. These factors interested Boyle more than the promise of a drug relapse — he jokes that "the drug that's most abused in the film is Viagra. " To put enough distance between "T2" and the original, the filmmakers at first refused to call it "Trainspotting, " going instead with the name "The Least Unfamiliar. " "It was to try to let the film get on its own two feet and work out its relationship with the past on its own, " he said. " Trust, " Boyle's upcoming drama series on FX, will follow the dynasty of the Getty family, a story rife with oil barons, kidnappings, and assorted other true-life dramas. Simon Beaufoy, who previously penned the scripts for Boyle's "Slumdog Millionaire" and "127 Hours, " is writing all the episodes in the first season, and Boyle is planning to direct two to three of them in addition to exec-producing the series.

"You look at the variety of the storytelling, it's phenomenal, " he said. "And that has dried up in cinema, for sure. What's extraordinary is the money equation is different. I mean, [TV is] not stupid with money, but they're also not on your back the whole time saying, 'Shave, shave, shave, shave. ' Which obviously the [film] studios are.
